Many of our customers here at Los Angeles Shades and Blinds ask us the benefits of installing vertical versus horizontal blinds at their LA home or business. While these blinds might seem absolutely the same to the average layperson, they are actually constructed slightly differently and meant for slightly different applications. In this blog post, our shade and blind installation experts will help illustrate the differences, and ideal applications for both vertical and horizontal blinds.
The Main Difference Between Vertical and Horizontal Blinds
The main difference between these types of blinds – besides the obvious difference between their vertical and horizontal applications, is that horizontal blinds come in a much wider range of material types (ranging from metal, plastic, and even faux wood!) Vertical blinds however usually come with fabric or banes made of plastic. Horizontal blind are usually smaller than vertical blinds, as well as their vane sizes. However, one commonality between the two is that both of these blinds and curtains have cordless varieties and are available in a wide range of colors.
Choosing the Best Blinds for my Property
You may be wondering what blinds will work best for your home or apartment. The answer to this question hinges on your practical needs and aesthetic preferences. Sliding doors are usually better fit with vertical blinds due to their larger size. However, smaller windows like those usually used in bathrooms will likely use horizontal blinds. If either of these blinds are on the table for consideration, it’s also important to consider which direction the window in the room faces in – for maximum sunlight, people usually opt to place vertical blinds in East or West facing windows. On the other hand, North and South facing windows are usually outfit with horizontal blinds. This is so they can better match with the sun’s angles. You should also consider privacy, as vertical blinds usually let much more light in through the window, and can remain somewhat open when they are brushed up against – while horizontal blinds provide better blackout control.
